Wexford is still the Sunny South East but now a new unified Wexford brand has been launched by Wexford Tourism and Wexford County Council to promote Wexford as an ideal tourist destination.
A key part of the brand identification is the phrase “Wexford so old, so new” written in a Viking style script with a modern twist too. This is to reflect the rich history of the county and the variety of modern culture and local attractions available.
I think this is a great idea to promote the unique features of Wexford with its heritage and activities.
The running on just the legacy tag line of “Sunny South-East” has been a bit tired and with modern air travel if people want sun alone they can jet off to a lot hotter climates. Having said that Wexford does have a great selection of fine sandy beaches the sea water quality and the sunlight times are the best in Ireland. But the new Wexford brand goes beyond this to show that if you scratch the surface Wexford has a lot more to offer visitors and locals alike. A rich coastline with many areas of special interest which attract bird watchers and others interested in eco-tourism. Wexford also has many excellent walking and cycling routes for those seeking to pack their holiday with nature, landscapes in the open air the main cycle routes are also clearly marked with distinctive blue signs. Local heritage sites, castles and museums to discover and learn how Wexford has always been important in the history and changing culture of Ireland. Wexford offers visitors a variety of entertainment and activities from opera and theatre to paint balling and aerial trekking. Family days are also easily catered for with a wide selection of beaches, forests, parks and open farms. Along with a vibrant night life and fine eating establishments Wexford has everything required for a fabulous holiday.
The new website that accompanies the re-branding seems to be on the pulse for promoting this diversity of activities relating to both the past and present in Wexford. It promotes well the image of Wexford as place where important events have happened and it is now a modern friendly and happening place.
