There was a sea of people and a fleet of cars that took up every available vantage spot along the Suir estuary to catch a glimpse of the Tall Ships as they headed out to sea after the festival wrapped up in Waterford. At one stage the Gardai had to request people to stop coming due to tailbacks and delays. One of the most popular destinations to experience the event and make the most of the perfect weather was Hook Head where a whole day of activities was planned for all the family.
A late course change in the race due to Atlantic conditions meant that the ships actually passed by a lot of the Wexford coast and Carnsore point rather than the planned route towards Cork however with the distance they were out to sea apart from a few smaller yachts the views from the shore were limited. This did not stop quite a number of people heading to Carne and Carnsore point to have a look.
A nice little boost to Wexford tourism from the highly successful Waterford festival.
